Once in Sardinia cyclists are welcome in a nice beach resort and can relax only caring about the tour and the beauties they will be able to watch, listen to and taste along the route. Same kind of service will be available at Finish in Palermo.
Bike Rando Staff, implementing the IGT format, arranged the Randonnée tracks in order to offer varied and interesting routes, abundant services, local food, dormitories, showers, bag drop service and assistance. To all riders and their partners the boat trip from Sardinia to Sicily is guaranteed. Approved accommodations will be eventually available for longer stays. The fee is therefore all inclusive, extra costs will depend on single necessities.
Routes have been designed in order to allow anybody to finish before the maximum time of 40 hours established by Audax Club Parisienne. 80 hours in total excluding the 12-hour boat transfer from Cagliari to Palermo, during which will be possible to have dinner, sleep in a shared cabin and have breakfast before the start of the second 600km Brevet in Sicily.
The route in Sardinia, 617 km and 6853m D+, will mostly follow the national road "SS 125 Orientale Sarda" through cozy coastal places and mountainous hinterland, crossing ancient villages like Ogliastra, Barbagia and Baronie, where Cannonau wine and Pecorino cheese are produced.
The route in Sicily, 592 km and 6302m D+, begins in Palermo and, once reached Termini Imerese, penetrates the hinterland along the historical national road "SS 120 dell'Etna e delle Madonie". Passed Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe, the route from Taormina to Palermo follows the coast and goes through fascinating landscapes.
